The Velar does battle with a variety of highly-rated competitors including the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE, not to mention the Porsche Macan, Jaguar’s own F-Pace and Volvo XC60. The rakishly elegant Range Rover Velar slots into what used to be a yawning chasm between Range Rover’s Evoque and Sport models, giving the Indian-owned JLR group a premium contender in a segment that’s proved lucrative for rivals. That said, who said style and fashion come cheap? About the Range Rover Velar The entry Velar starts at more than £46,000 but you’ll be spending a lot more than that for a Velar with all the kit you’d want. There’s a good selection of engines, but be aware of tight rear seat passenger space and high list prices. The Velar's dimensions fall in the middle of the Macan and the X5, dimension-wise, which is a sweet spot.The Range Rover Velar is a supremely stylish SUV. Its slippery shape and stunning interior make it ultra desirable, but it’s the first Range Rover to heavily prioritise form over function. The BMW X5's dimensions and Merc GLE 350's dimensions make them the longest and widest SUVs among the four, with the Porsche being perhaps the smallest. You can opt for 19” wheels or go up to 21” ones. The R-Dynamic versions add the R-Dynamic theme to the part, with new accents, and slightly different body kit designs. The rear sees quad-exhaust nodes with aggressive-looking tail lights sandwiching the RANGE ROVER logo. ![]() A panoramic sunroof is standard and the blacked-out roof and pillar further accentuate the style and appeal. The front sees the two stylishly curved LED headlights give away to the big grille, and flanked by two fender vent-like accents on either side. This new Pivi Pro offers a much more responsive experience and comes with all the modern bells and whistles: There’s also a 12.3” driver display for displaying information. The two 10” floating screens look quite slick and futuristic, with the lower touchscreen mostly being used for adjusting climate controls. The new Range Rover Velar gets a much-awaited upgrade in form of the new Pivi Pro infotainment system. Overall, the spacious cabin and the posh appeal of the interior is quite an asset for the whole package that is offered with the new Velar. You also get quite extensive cargo storage of about 30.9 cu ft, and with the rear seats folded, you get a cavernous 80.2 cu ft of total storage. With the available air suspension with higher trims, the ride is all the more comfortable and convenient. The infotainment screen isn’t too far from the driver and all the dials and knobs are also conveniently placed for easy access. View 2021 Range Rover Velar Fuel Economy and Range> The BMW X5's mpg figures are similar to the Velar, however, where they do differ though, is the fuel tank capacity. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 offers 22 mpg combined, but also offers the best range owing to the cavernous 22.5-gallon fuel tank. The Velar gets the smallest fuel tank in comparison to its rivals, offering a range of 381 miles in mixed driving conditions which is the lowest in this segment.Īll the rivals in this comparison are more or less in the same ballpark in terms of economy. The 2021 Range Rover Velar's mpg figures are impressive, however, what spoils the game is its fuel tank capacity of 16.6 gallons. It’s also equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes with 13.8” rotors at the front and 12.8” rotors at the back, so braking should be pretty well-handled too. Land Rover claims that the 2021 Velar with its base 2.0L engine will be able to go from 0-60 MPH in 7.1 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 135 mph, which is decent for a turbo I-4. If you want more boost with your Velar, the new P340 powertrain will go from 0-60 in an impressive 6.0 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 149 mph. The base P250 engine offers a towing capacity of 5,291 pounds whereas the P340 engine can tow up to 5,512 pounds. Both engines are mated to a slick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission and power is delivered to all wheels via a highly capable AWD drivetrain.
